Life Drawing Course: Beginners

Discover the foundations of life drawing in this practical, studio-based course in Sydney. Life drawing trains you to truly see and respond to the human form, helping you improve observation, proportion, gesture and expression. Through a series of quick and extended poses, you’ll learn to capture what’s in front of you with confidence and clarity.

The first sessions focus on the core principles of drawing from life, including proportion, gesture and form. You’ll explore different techniques and materials to build a strong foundation before progressing to more developed studies.

Working with a professional life model, you’ll engage in both short and long poses to refine your ability to draw quickly, observe detail and understand anatomy. You’ll experiment with a range of media while exploring line, tone, composition and the effects of light and shadow. Set-ups may include props and varied lighting to deepen your understanding of the figure in space.

Guided by a practising artist, you’ll also look at artists who work creatively with the human form, using their approaches as inspiration for your own drawings. By the end of the course, you’ll feel more confident in your skills and personal expression.
